About Romney, IN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Romney, Indiana is a small, unincorporated community located in Tippecanoe County. Also part of Randolph Township, Romney was previously called Columbia. However, its current name was taken from the community of Romney, West Virginia, and the community’s post office has been operational here since 1842. Romney is most well known for being home to Foxton Farm, and while previously used for fox hunting, this facility now houses Purdue University’s equestrian program and polo ponies. Given that Romney is only about 12 miles from West Lafayette where Purdue University is located, this makes the stables conveniently located for the school’s students and faculty.

Romney is a very small community, so there aren’t any noteworthy attractions found here. However, a couple of important businesses do call Romney home, including the Romney Cafe and the Pit Stop, which is a local convenience store. Other retail stores are also found in Romney, including the Romney Toy Shop and the Shear Heaven Style Shop.

The Romney area is home to varied weather patterns throughout the year. Summers are hot with high humidity, and average high temperatures reach into the upper-80s. However, thermostat readings into the 90s are also common, so most residents invest in an energy efficient central air conditioning system. Units with a high SEER rating can also work to keep utility costs affordable regardless of how hot it becomes outdoors.

Winters in Romney are cold with high temperatures in the 30s. Overnight, lows can fall below freezing, and when coupled with snow or freezing rain, dangerous travel conditions could exist. Residents who are forced to stay indoors will be happy to have a gas or electric heat pump in place to keep temperatures comfortable. These systems also protect plumbing systems and pipework, as an expensive repair might be warranted should these structures freeze.
